Closer (2005)
When I lived at 400 Brock street in Kingston I walked the same route everyday, several times a day. And I looked up to see the spires of St. Mary’s cathedral against the light of day, or see it lit by night. I photographed this image from two points on University Avenue every time I passed by it.
The text is a suggestion of authenticity and offers confusion about the speaker – who is she, he, you, they, I? Somewhere someone thinks some of the same thoughts some of the time but no one thinks all the thoughts all of the time.
Closer is a bookwork of 50+ pages, one side of the page put through a proofing press for the text and the opposing page with a photocopied transfer put through an etching press. The book is hand bound.
