The Unicorn Series (2008)

The Unicorn always situates herself in areas of recognition around Kingston. This particular selection focuses on the waterfront area, spanning from King Street at Queen’s University and going towards the Wellington St Woolen Mill. The Unicorn is not elusive. She enjoys posing, and has a standard set of moves to show you. She is bejeweled and pretty, but fierce. She knows what gentrification means. She sees that building boarded up and for sale right across from the not-quite finished condominium, along with the other three that are not done yet either. She walks everywhere in Kingston because her bike has a flat tire and there is nowhere to park a car. She prefers spring, but fall is nice too. The Unicorn loves Kingston. But it is killing her.
