Hyenas (One and Two) (2009)

Hyena One claims “I don’t care what she says” in utter defiance. Or boredom. Or, she is yelling. The three-layered quilt is pieced together, mixing traditional quilting methods with contemporary design and unexpected bold colours. All fabrics are found, borrowed, picked up off the street or taken off your back.

Hyena Two is a balance between affection and aggression. Bold text, bright colours and a fleeting sense of loss. The text is from W.H. Aulden’s poem September 1, 1939 - later borrow and altered by Lyndon Johnson in his 1964 U.S. presidents campaign. The text re-emerged as a point of discussion following 9/11. The three-layered quilt is pieced together, mixing traditional quilting methods with contemporary design and sometimes unexpected colours. All fabrics are found, borrowed, picked up off the street or taken off your back.

Each quilt is approximately 150 x 190cm (recycled fabrics, appliqué)
